All government-run, subsidized, per-place-allowance, and special schools in Hong Kong, as well as Direct Subsidy Scheme schools, are eligible to apply for this subsidy.
Amount of funds allocated
The grant amount is a lump sum of HK$300,000 .
Application procedures and disbursement arrangements
The school does not need to submit any application. The relevant subsidies will be disbursed in March of the 2024 academic year.
-
For general schools (including subsidized schools, per-unit schools, special schools, and direct subsidy schools): the funds will be directly deposited into the school's bank account for receiving subsidies from the Education Bureau.
-
For government schools: The subsidies will be disbursed in the form of budget allocations, and schools must make the payments from the newly assigned designated user account (the account will be provided separately).
How to apply for a grant
Schools can use the relevant subsidies across academic years starting from the 2023/24 academic year. The subsidy period will extend until the end of the 2026/27 academic year. This means that schools can carry over any unused subsidy balance to subsequent academic years or financial years.
Examples of activities that can be held with subsidies
Schools can flexibly use this subsidy to organize various types of Chinese culture-related activities and programs, for example:
Organize learning or experiential activities or lectures for undergraduate and interdisciplinary students related to Chinese culture.
Organize or sponsor students to participate in local or mainland inter-school activities or competitions related to Chinese culture.
Organize or sponsor students to participate in local cultural study tours or visits.
Develop courses on Chinese culture.
Procurement and development of Chinese culture learning and teaching resources, such as books, multimedia and e-learning resources, to enhance students' interest in learning Chinese culture.
The program subsidizes students and accompanying teachers to travel to mainland China to participate in exchange activities to learn about Chinese culture.
